Chatbase alternatives: which AI agent to use instead of Chatbase

Chatbase lets you build an AI agent trained on your own documents and website, and put it on your site and other channels. People look for Chatbase alternatives when message credits get expensive, when they need a helpdesk around the agent, or when they want more than a text box: help building the knowledge base, analytics that show what visitors ask, or real video. This guide compares the options fairly.

We make one of the options, Life Inside, so we have tried to say where another tool is the better choice. Facts about other vendors were checked on 3 November 2026 and are listed under sources. More comparisons: all alternatives.

Chatbase alternatives at a glance

Intercom Fin

Best for: Support teams that want a strong AI agent, on Intercom or their current helpdesk

Fin is Intercom's AI agent, priced at $0.99 per outcome at the time of writing (November 2026). It runs inside Intercom's helpdesk or on top of another helpdesk, so the AI and the human team share one inbox. See our Intercom alternative page.

Tidio

Best for: Small businesses and online shops that want an AI agent and live chat in one

Tidio combines live chat, ticketing and Lyro, an AI agent that answers from your support content. There is a free plan, and Lyro is priced by AI conversations. More in our Tidio alternative guide.

Crisp

Best for: Small teams that want an AI agent inside a shared inbox, built in Europe

Crisp, built in France, offers live chat, a shared inbox and Hugo, its AI agent. Plans are priced per workspace rather than per seat, and paid plans include AI credits. The free plan has no AI credits.

HubSpot

Best for: Teams that already run their CRM on HubSpot

HubSpot's customer agent answers in chat and hands over to your team in the same inbox. On Professional and Enterprise it costs $0.50 per resolved conversation in HubSpot Credits at the time of writing (November 2026).

tawk.to

Best for: Very small budgets that want free live chat with an optional AI add-on

tawk.to gives live chat, ticketing and a knowledge base away for free. Its AI Assist add-on answers from your knowledge base, with a free Hobby plan and paid tiers by message credits.

Life Inside

Best for: Teams that want an AI agent built with them, answering from approved content, with real video

Life Inside's AI Chat Agent answers from content you approve in 60+ languages and guides visitors to the next step. When it helps, it shows a short interactive video of your real people in the same window. AgentLoop shows what visitors asked and pushes leads to HubSpot and Salesforce. It is not a helpdesk.

Why teams look for Chatbase competitors

  • Credits to plan for. Plans are priced by message credits, so costs rise with traffic.
  • Do-it-yourself setup. Chatbase is self-serve. Some teams would rather have the knowledge base built and tested with them.
  • Text only. Some teams want the chat to show their real people, not only type answers.

How to choose a Chatbase alternative

  • If your team answers support chats, pick a helpdesk with an AI agent inside it: Intercom, Tidio, Crisp or HubSpot.
  • If budget comes first, tawk.to with AI Assist, or Tidio's free plan, is the cheapest place to start.
  • If the chat should answer pre-sales questions, guide candidates or book meetings, look for an agent built around that job, with analytics on what visitors ask.
  • Check how answers are controlled. Ask whether the agent answers only from your approved content and what it does when it does not know.
  • Check data hosting. If you sell in Europe, ask where data is stored and whether you get a data processing agreement.

Is Life Inside a good Chatbase alternative?

It is if you want the agent to sell, guide or recruit on your website, and you would like it built with you rather than on your own. If you want a cheap self-serve builder to put on many channels, Chatbase is the better fit, and if your team needs a support inbox, choose a helpdesk.

The AI Chat Agent answers from your website, documents and FAQs, only from content you approve, in the language the visitor writes in. When it does not know, it says so, and the gap shows up in AgentLoop with a suggested fix, alongside topics, sentiment and lead scoring.

The difference from a text-only agent is that the same conversation can include your people on video. The visitor chats in text, and when it helps the agent shows a short video in the same window. In e-commerce that is a product video when a shopper asks how something works. In real estate, after the first questions, the agent shows a video from the agent responsible for the listing and then helps the visitor book a viewing. On customer sites, up to 15% of visitors click the widget.

Setup is one JavaScript snippet, most agents go live within a day, and Life Inside builds the knowledge base with you. Data is hosted in the EU, with a data processing agreement, and there is no lock-in, with 3 months' notice. Book a demo to see it answer from your own content.

Moving from Chatbase

  1. Collect your sources: the files, URLs, text and Q&A pairs your Chatbase agent was trained on. They carry straight over.
  2. Export conversations and note the questions it got wrong or could not answer.
  3. List any actions and integrations the agent uses, such as handover, calendar links or CRM sync.
  4. Test the replacement on a few pages while Chatbase still runs elsewhere.
  5. Remove the Chatbase embed from every page where the new agent takes over, and cancel your plan.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the job. For a support team with an inbox, look at Intercom's Fin, Tidio, Crisp or HubSpot. For the lowest cost, look at tawk.to with AI Assist.
