Intercom alternative: when to switch, and when to stay

If you are looking for an Intercom alternative, start with what you use Intercom for. Intercom is a strong customer support platform: a Messenger, shared inbox, tickets, help centre and Fin, its AI agent. If your team lives in that inbox, another support desk may suit you, or staying may be the right call. If what you really need is an AI agent on your website that answers questions before people buy, apply or book, a lighter tool can fit better.

This page compares Intercom with the main alternatives, including Life Inside, which we make. Facts about other vendors were checked on 27 October 2026 and are listed under sources. More comparisons: all alternatives.

Intercom alternatives at a glance

Zendesk

Best for: Larger support teams that want a full ticketing suite with AI agents

Zendesk is a long-established support suite with ticketing, messaging and help centre. AI agents are included in every Suite and Support plan, with a monthly allowance of automated resolutions per agent and extra resolutions billed on top. A common choice when you want support depth with a different pricing model.

HubSpot

Best for: Teams that run marketing, sales and service on HubSpot

HubSpot's live chat and chatbot builder start free, with conversations in a shared inbox in the CRM. On Professional and Enterprise, its AI customer agent answers on chat, email and other channels for $0.50 per resolution in HubSpot Credits at the time of writing (October 2026). See also AI chat on HubSpot sites.

Crisp

Best for: Small and mid-sized teams that want affordable messaging built in Europe

Crisp, built in France, offers live chat, a shared inbox and Hugo, its AI agent. Plans are priced per workspace instead of per seat, with AI credits included from the Mini plan. A simpler inbox if per-seat pricing has become hard to justify.

Tidio

Best for: Small businesses and online shops

Tidio combines live chat, ticketing, rule-based Flows and Lyro, an AI agent that answers in 48 languages. There is a free plan, and Lyro can connect to Zendesk, Intercom or Salesforce on higher plans. See our Tidio alternative page.

Qualified

Best for: B2B teams on Salesforce whose chat is mainly an inbound sales channel

Qualified's Piper is an AI SDR agent that greets website visitors over chat, voice or video, qualifies them and schedules meetings. Salesforce completed its acquisition of Qualified in April 2026. Choose it if your chat is a pipeline tool rather than a support desk.

Life Inside

Best for: Teams that want an AI agent for pre-sales, recruitment and guidance, with real video

The AI Chat Agent answers from your approved content in 60+ languages, guides visitors to the next step and can show interactive video of real people in the same window. AgentLoop shows what visitors asked and pushes leads to HubSpot and Salesforce. Not a support desk: no tickets, no agent inbox.

Who should stay on Intercom

Plenty of teams searching for alternatives to Intercom are better off where they are. Stay if one of these sounds like you:

  • You run a support team that works tickets and live chats every day. Intercom's inbox, ticketing, help centre and Fin are built to work together, and replacing them is a big project.
  • You use Intercom inside your product, for example posts, checklists, product tours and surveys from its Proactive Support Plus add-on.
  • Fin already resolves a large share of your conversations and the cost per outcome works for you.
  • You want voice support from the same AI agent. Fin Voice is sold through Intercom.

Why teams look for Intercom alternatives

The reasons are usually about fit rather than quality. A team that only needs an assistant on its marketing or careers pages pays for, and maintains, a full support desk. Usage-based pricing is easy to start with but moves with volume, so model it before you commit: Fin is charged per outcome, a sales qualification costs ten times a support resolution, and helpdesk seats come on top.

Other teams want something Intercom is not built around: real people on video in the conversation, or insight into what visitors ask before they become customers. If that is you, compare tools by the job rather than by feature lists.

Looking for an Intercom Fin alternative?

Fin and the Intercom helpdesk can be bought separately: Fin runs on other helpdesks such as Salesforce or HubSpot, with a minimum monthly commitment. So leaving the helpdesk does not mean leaving Fin, and the reverse is also true. If it is the AI agent you want to replace, the pricing units differ a lot:

  • Zendesk: AI agents included in every plan, with automated resolutions per agent and extra resolutions billed on top.
  • HubSpot: the AI customer agent uses HubSpot Credits, $0.50 per resolution at the time of writing.
  • Crisp: Hugo uses AI credits included in paid plans; Crisp's own estimate is about $0.05 to $0.10 per AI-handled conversation.
  • Tidio: Lyro is sold by the number of AI conversations, and Tidio's Premium plan offers pay-per-resolution billing.
  • Life Inside: a monthly plan where text chat is fair use rather than charged per conversation. See pricing.

How Life Inside differs from Intercom

Life Inside is built for the conversations that happen before someone becomes a customer or an employee. The agent answers questions from your website, documents and FAQs, guides visitors to book a meeting, apply for the right job or find the right page, and presents interactive video of real people when it helps. Akkodis runs an AI career guide for its employees on Life Inside, and you can read more about recruitment and sales and marketing uses.

AgentLoop turns every conversation into insight: topics, sentiment, lead scoring and knowledge gaps with suggested fixes. Data is hosted in the EU, encrypted at rest and in transit, and the widget sets no cookies.

It does not replace a helpdesk. There are no tickets and no inbox where agents take over; when a question needs a human, the agent points to the right contact or booking link. You can keep Intercom for customer support and put Life Inside on your marketing or careers pages. Book a demo to see it with your own content.

How to switch from Intercom

  1. Check your renewal date and notice terms before you plan the move.
  2. Export your help articles and recent conversations. They show what visitors ask and what your new agent must answer.
  3. Decide where handover goes: a support inbox, a contact page or a booking link.
  4. Install the new tool on a few pages and compare answers with Fin before you switch over.
  5. Remove the Intercom Messenger from those pages once the new setup works, and update reports that used Intercom data.

It depends on the job. For a full support desk, look at Zendesk or HubSpot. For lower-cost messaging, look at Crisp or Tidio. For inbound sales on Salesforce, look at Qualified.
