Squarespace chatbot: add an AI chat agent with Code Injection
If you run a Squarespace site for a studio, a consultancy, a venue or an estate agency, the same questions probably reach your inbox every week. A Squarespace chatbot can answer them on the spot. Life Inside's AI Chat Agent answers from your own pages and documents, and Squarespace takes it through Code Injection, which Squarespace itself suggests for live chat services.
Below: the plans that allow it, where to click, how to check it works and how to show it on some pages only. For other platforms, see all install guides.
What you need
- A Squarespace Core, Plus or Advanced plan, or a legacy Business or Commerce plan. The Basic plan and the legacy Personal plan do not include Code Injection.
- Access to the site editor of your Squarespace site.
- Your Life Inside snippet with your own widget ID, sent by Life Inside when your agent is set up.
- A Life Inside AI Agent plan. See the pricing page.
Add the Life Inside snippet to Squarespace
Your snippet, with your own widget ID, comes from Life Inside when your agent is set up. It looks like this:
<script>
(function () {
var s = document.createElement("script");
s.src = "https://widget.lifeinside.io/loader/latest/widget";
s.charset = "UTF-8";
s.async = true;
s.onload = function () {
WidgetWrapper.mount({ id: "YOUR_WIDGET_ID" });
};
document.body.appendChild(s);
})();
</script>- In your site editor, open the Pages panel.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Custom Code, then Code Injection. On version 7.0 sites, click Website Tools, then Code Injection.
- Paste the Life Inside snippet into the Footer field. Squarespace injects footer code before the closing body tag on every page.
- Click Save.
Squarespace code injection: Footer, not Header
The Code Injection panel has two site-wide fields. Header puts code into the head of every page; Footer puts it before the closing body tag. The Life Inside snippet adds the chat widget to the body of the page, so it belongs in Footer.
The same reasoning rules out page-level code injection for this snippet. In a page's advanced settings, Squarespace only offers Page Header Code Injection, which also lands in the head. To limit the agent to some pages, use a code block instead, as described below.
Which Squarespace plans allow a chatbot
Squarespace includes Code Injection in Core, Plus, Advanced and some legacy plans. Of the legacy plans, Business and both Commerce plans include custom code; Personal does not. Since February 2026 nobody can sign up for those legacy plans, but Squarespace keeps supporting sites that are still on them.
The Basic plan has the CSS editor and code blocks for HTML, Markdown and CSS, but not JavaScript, so a chat widget needs an upgrade to Core or above. Whatever your plan, checkout pages do not accept code, so the agent will not appear in checkout.
What a Squarespace AI chatbot does for a small team
On a small team, nobody has time to answer the same question twice. The agent answers from the content you approve, such as your service pages, price lists, FAQs and documents, and guides visitors to the next step: a booking link, a contact form or the right page. When it does not know, it says so and points to the right person, and the gap shows up in AgentLoop. The weekly insight digest tells you what visitors asked without reading every conversation.
- Venues and event organisers: questions about dates, access and tickets before and during the event. See events.
- Estate agents: questions about listings, viewings and the buying process. See real estate.
- Studios and consultancies: show who you are with interactive video of the real team in the same chat window, then book the first meeting.
- International clients: answers in more than 60 languages, in the language the visitor writes in.
Show the chatbot on some pages only
Leave the Footer field empty and add a Code block with the snippet to each page that should show the agent. Code blocks run JavaScript on the Core, Plus, Advanced and some legacy plans. Squarespace notes that code in a code block may not show while you are logged in, even though visitors see it, so test in a private window.
Check that it works
If the editor shows "We detected an error loading your site preview", click Disable Scripts in Preview. That only affects your editing view, not what visitors see. Then contact Life Inside and we will check the snippet with you, or book a demo if you have not set up your agent yet.
- Open your site in a private or incognito window. Squarespace recommends this for seeing the live site with custom code.
- Look for the Life Inside widget in a bottom corner of the page.
- Ask a question your site answers, then one it should not know, and check that the second answer points to the right contact.
- Confirm the conversation shows up in AgentLoop.
